How To Search The Orange County Comptroller’s
Official Records Index
At the first screen, choose the type of search you want to perform. Your options are:
* Party Name
* Document Type File Number
* Book & Page
* To find and/or print the list of commonly used company party name abbreviations , click here.
NOTE: Prior to November 14, 2002, abbreviations were frequently used when indexing company names. Consequently, you should also search the name using the abbreviation list provided to ensure that you find all documents.

- If you are not sure of the entire name, key in Last Name and Initial of First Name.
- You can also use the wild card search (%) feature.
- Do not use commas between names.
- Do not use punctuation marks (such as - or ‘).
Replace the punctuation mark with a blank space.

Key in the company name.
- Remember that, over the years, a company may change its name. (Example: Sears and Roebuck is now Sears).
- In this example, you will need to key in both variations of the name to locate all documents for Sears.

- After entering the party name you want to search, decide if you want to limit your search to specific types of documents.
- If you want to find and/or print the list of document types, click here.
- If you want to search on several document types at once, separate the document type codes by commas (Example: LN, S, EAS).

| Date Range |
- After entering the party name and restricting search by document type, you can add a specific date range to significantly decrease your search time.
- Click options appearing under the date range boxes. These options will automatically load the most recent time frame specified.
- You may also enter a specific date range.

| Consideration Amount |
- This feature works well for such documents as: Deeds, Mortgages, Modifications, etc.
- After entering the document type(s) you wish to search, you may restrict your search by consideration amount.
- By limiting your search to a specific consideration amount, the search will yield only those documents (i.e., Deeds, Mortgages, Modifications, etc.) with a consideration amount equal to or greater than >amount selected.
- DO NOT enter a dollar ($) sign, or your search will fail.

| Date Range |
- After entering the document type(s) you wish to search (i.e., Deeds, Mortgages, Modifications, etc.) and consideration amount, you must select a date range.
- You are limited to a 90-day range for any one search due to the volume of documents typically recorded in a 90-day period.
- You do not have to select the most recent 90-day period.

- Select type of book/page search (Plat Book)
- Enter the Book Number, followed by a slash mark ( / ), followed by the Page Number of the first page of the document you are searching. Leading zeros are not necessary.
- Book Numbers range up to 2 digits
- Page Numbers range up to 3 digits
- For ALPHA plats, the book number must be converted to correspond with the numerical order in which it appears in the alphabet.
